Les tours et remparts d’Aigues-Mortes

The Kingdom of France’s top Mediterranean port, the town of Aigues-Mortes was built by King Louis IX (Saint Louis) in the 13th century. The Tower of Constance is one of the most majestic keeps in mediaeval architecture. It served as a prison for Knights Templar, then for Protestants from the Cévennes in the 18th century. Today, the fortified town is remarkable for its exceptional state of preservation.
