Built during the last part of the 12th century and finished in the 13th, the "Abbey of Saint-Gilles" was, throughout the Middle-Ages, the fourth pilgrimage destination in the Christian world. Partially destroyed during the religious wars and restored during the 17th century, the abbey has retained its sculpted front - a real masterpiece of Roman art- its monumental crypt and its famous spiral stairway in the old choir.
Open every day from 01/04 to 31/10, except Sunday morning and 1st May. From 1/11 to 31/03, the crypt is open Monday-Saturday, the old presbytery is open Monday-Friday ; closed Sunday and Bank Holidays.
