The Gard is rich in contrasting lands, from the Cévennes Mountains to the flatlands of Camargue and the coastal region gives way to a succession of woodlands, garrigue (scrubland) and plains offering a wide diversity of crops and a wide range of flavours and aromas. Famous wines: Côtes du Rhône, Costières de Nîmes, Clairette de Bellegarde; delectable fruit, olives, rice, sweet onions from the Cévennes are among the most coveted.
