The Cévennes and the region of Alès
The northern part of the département is marked by deep valleys on whose slopes grow mulberry and chestnut trees... the Cévennes. The mountains offer a wide variety of landscapes, a land of serenity and grandiose panoramas you can discover, in particular along the D9 road that runs along the Corniche des Cévennes. In Alès, the gateway to the Cévennes, you can discover the memory of the coal mines, the town’s prestigious past. The presence of mulberry trees also contributed in the past to raising silkworms, an industry you can discover at the Musée de la Soie in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort.
